Finding out about your child

pasting-3740.jpgDay to day, when you drop off or pick up your child, you’ll have a chance to chat to the staff about how it’s all going. This is a great time to get a quick update on how your child is settling in, how their day has gone, and for you to get to know the staff and for them to get to know you.

The staff in each room also write up a daily diary with a description of the day’s highlights. The diary might tell you about the general feeling of the room that day, an interesting activity the children initiated or took part in, or a conversation or collaboration between some of the children. In some rooms, staff also compile a photo diary, showing the kids at play, or write up a poster of what went on during the day with room for family feedback. Staff also maintain a list of meals eaten and sleep/rest times, which you’ll find next to the sign in/out book.

Staff-parent interviews are also scheduled three times per year to give you a chance to find out more about how your child is going. These meetings are a chance to sit down, free from distractions, and talk about your child. It’s definitely not a report-card, but rather a chance for input from you and feedback from the carer.

Of course, if you have concerns at any time, you can ring and make a time to see the carer in your child’s room.
